Building a Website

One of the reasons I wanted to build this web page was so I can start blogging. The site is still developing, but I figures I could my feet wet sharing some of the adventures…
Firstly, the site would not exist without the help of my web-guru Raina. I don’t really know how it all works, I just write the words, pick the pictures and lob out vague suggestions about style. In addition to my general lack of web knowledge, I brought in the added challenge of trying to build a website without actually having web access.
When I first moved to Palo Alto, I made an agreement with my downstairs neighbor to access his secure wireless network in exchange for a token amount of cash and an occassional 12-pack. Then he had the nerve to move.
Since then, both of the last two tenants have agreed to the same deal, but for one reason or another it has yet to quite work. It’s been almost a year now…
So everything on this site (not to mention building a distribution list of 500 yoga students, coordinating a retreat and starting a de-facto yoga retail business) has been done primarily from coffee shops and my favorite sports bar, The Old Pro (where I happen to be working right now).
As romantic as it might sound to be coffee shop entrepreneur, it tends to be more pragmatic than anything else. Those really hip and cool cyber cafes haven’t seemed to find there way to the mid-peninsula (where my hours of afternoon freedom are). The best combination of hi-speed web access, available AC outlets, comfortable tables/chairs and multiple locations (Le Bolanger) also came with unlimited refills of soda. Three or four diet cokes would propell me through my afternoon to do list (and my evening class).
All was good until my joints started deteriorating. First my knee started popping, then my shoulder started hurting, then my back started acting up. I always say listen to your body. Last week, I started to listen to mine. Just by cutting back (way back) on the sodas, everything started feeling better.
Maybe the fact that I didn’t have a day off in September had something to do with it, but October has a whole new look to it.
